a day. palestinians raised their hopes for a successful statehood bid at the u.n. despite firm opposition from the u.s. and israel which claimed the status upgrade won't improve life for the autonomy. unrelenting protests in egypt as christians and liberals boycott the vote on a new constitution fearing the document will only cement the presidency and the muslim brotherhood's grip on power. also a strong wake up call for the british press could be on the cards as the long anticipated leveson report suggests the government might tighten its grip over the u.k. media. and from nine feels the bailout heat with media and lawmakers blasting chancellor merkel for concealing the true cost of saving grace.
9:01 am
and i welcome you watching r.t. live from moscow now it's crunch time for palestinians eagerly anticipating a u.n. vote which may finally see them granted long sought after statehood the autonomy is hoping to be upgraded to the position of a non member observer state hundreds of people flooded the streets of ramallah in support of the big submitted by authorities in the west bank the palestinian leadership is optimistic about the outcome despite strong opposition from the us and israel gaza base activists harry fear reports on why success at the u.n. is so important for palestinians. to the end of the day we have in here in the middle east we have an israeli state and then we have a normal palestinian state or simply palestinian territories the palestinian people do not have rights like israelis do as
9:02 am
a result of the status. national entity and so this is. but status of the palestinian territories. to try and move towards a recognition of the palestinian territories as palestine and here in gaza this has a lot of significance because the palestinian territories geographically noncontiguous we have the west bank and gaza in the west bank particular associated with the power of mahmoud abbas and here in gaza particular associated with the power of hamas now recently of course we've had the two thousand and twelve gaza war seven eight day war with a state of israel and palestinian resistance groups including the resistance wing of hamas as part of this on brigades used force against the state of israel in that conflict that is starkly different in terms of positioning with the state of israel in terms of gauging where the state of israel in comparison to mahmoud abbas who is
9:03 am
seen. western world as much more moderate in comparison to how mass presenting a more hardline position including armed resistance against the state of israel so what we have here is a palestinian political dynamic as well if the western world and indeed the u.n. does not support this increase status for the palestinian people then what will almost certainly happen will be that mahmoud abbas is seen as even weaker of a palestinian national representative and hamas will be further strengthened to the dismay of israel and the united states well journalist and columnist for the israeli how it's newspaper gideon levy claims israel hasn't left palestinians much room to maneuver. if users says no to be blown as it says yes to terror i mean that palestinians will continue to fight for their freedom and their don't waste basic ways to do so once through be brought to see and it was shared
9:04 am
and they are the ones. israel says no to both big claim that this is one sided this that the palestinians taking over the us but the settlements are much more one sided and even if you're versatile than the state i mean i bust the spirit from locals because you're asians he was ready to negotiate the ensuite there's very logically ones like freezing the settlements is that it's a slow freezing the second round so what way is still good for him except of going to be international community and us there for recuperation israel should have supported him and the united states for sure shalit. a senior israeli foreign official says the state has lost europe's support convinced the continent will either vote for the palestinians or abstain and one of the country set to withhold it says' germany to reign
9:05 am
a stinnett and pay for the free democratic party says his country is committed to seeing a free palestinian state. our ultimate political goal is definitely is two state solution and i think everybody in the world knows that germany has a special relationship to israel everybody in the world knows security of israel is of major concern to us but our decision to abstain this time we would be making very clear that we support the ultimate goal of two state solution with the palestine state in the region a palestinian state and save borders a palestinian state that has the possibility of the chance to develop its economy and society and be beneficial for the palestinian people who deserve it after such a long time of suffering. the approval of the pit would be a victory not only for the palestinian people but for the israeli population as well as chairman of the palestinian israeli peace and for him ron pundak.
9:06 am
well israel is being split clearly the government of israel has tried its best to try and work with any country on the world in order to prevent it but seemingly it's a huge success for the palestinians there are many in israel like myself like many other peace activists and n.g.o.s and israeli politicians who believe that this was the right thing to do because at the end of the day what the u.n. has voted is not only in favor of the palestinian appeal but they voted in favor of peace voting in favor of peace and two state solution is voting in favor of israel as well as voting for palestine. well also coming up there israel has secured unwavering u.s. support when it comes to the palestinian conflict on other issues washington should say you know. you're not going to be making decisions for us later in the program

or nine statesmen is a big new year but is it think explains why the u.s. should establish boundaries in its relationship with. egypt national assembly is expected to vote on a new constitution later on thursday hoping to appease tens of thousands of protesters across the country has been mounting for a week now after president morsi granted himself unchallenged powers although promising to abandon them once a new constitution parliament are in place journalist spelled true has the latest from cairo. when this constitution is drafted and goes through referendum president morsi wrote in his controversial constitution that gratian his extra powers he's assumed will and to this is after the referendum however the real issue the heart of this debate is the constitution itself and the way that it's being drafted the opposition forces really see the constituent assembly. body because at least

a quarter of its members have staged a walkout including kiva presence tips from the church from liberal leftist forces for example so this constitution they really see has been drafted by president morsi supporters of the muslim brotherhood and the other is the most groups still left in the constituent assembly so i'm afraid this document will do nothing really intern crease the anger of the opposition forces who at the moment is staging an ongoing sit in in tahrir square we have a protest call today by opposition and pro morsi supporters which if we if they meet we expect to see quite a lot of clashes on the street this is also already been. very violent we've seen the death of at least one protester in these clashes between rival protesters as curses continue on the streets surrounding cairo we go now to my colleague tom barton who has more from the scene. in the center of cairo where protesters have emerged from around the side of this building in

a cycle of to and fro to buchholz with stones and tear gas with the police the police just stood over there and they keep emerging and firing tear gas canisters back at the protesters the protesters all morning have been rocking cars and trying to pull the doors off smashing windows throwing stones they've also been picking up the take aspirin aides of the police and throwing them back at the police some of the stones lining a bit closer now that the police come back and this has been going on for about two days now and back and forth. buckel last night they set fire to buildings and the police and the protesters dragging back casualties who have been without eyes were cheering and choking on the take gas and head injuries and other injuries from the flying stones all of this set off by muhammad missed his declaration last week he is now good to expected to make a television. a television address to the nation to try and explain why he took

such unprecedented power as people in tough race where haven't seen such violent protests that a more peaceful i'm not allowed to protest as well they want to send the message rescind this rescind this announcement rescind these powers you've given yourself they're supporting largely the country's top judges to be on strike and they the judges say that they will not allow this measure despite how mohammed morsi trying to say he is trying to find a compromise it seems likely this will go on until the situation can be jiffy used . car i mean while braga and journalist while s. gounder says there's a growing feeling in egypt that there's still a long way to real democracy the fact of the matter is that everything is going in the opposite direction of what the revolution is called for the constituent assembly itself is a reflection of how unwilling to share power the muslim brotherhood are and along

with one hundred morsi. he says that he will give back hours as soon as the parliament is a is elected but he's not allowing the gyptian to share in writing the constitution so this to me seems like a false promise about giving back power because the one thing he can do is allowed to just write their own constitution and share power and he's not doing that. and still to come a syrian opposition group tells the west to back all the pieces some nations and bringing more bloodshed to the country made reports of children on the front line of your meets itself to another foreign based opposition coalition. the hate trying to for a second time equates a form of course that in general of killing and torturing a decision slammed by belgrade is biased with i mean you're way off the shelf right .

a lovely quiet morning a family gently sleeps in district heights maryland when fifty armed f.b.i. agents storm the house and guns drawn despite the family pleading that they were unarmed the law enforcement agents opened fire on a weaponless teenager my asian huli thankfully sholay suffered minor flesh wounds but the key issue is that it remains unknown as to why the house was stormed so here in america for no reason guys in black uniforms storm someone's house all alone in some rounds and left with no justification or explanation yes the family still doesn't know why this happened the f.b.i. is remaining silent you know i understand that there are some very bad individuals out there doing some very bad stuff at home but if you don't even really know whose house you're storming or why you're storming it then maybe you should lay off the siege for a while you don't want to take a few minutes to think it over have

hello welcome back now the wide reaching leveson report into the standards of the u.k. press has suggested it should be regulated by new independent body backed by legislation the government is expected to deliver its reaction on the document later on thursday well ali joins me now live from london thank you for joining us why is this such a big deal. got under at such an emotive and such a charged issue for the british public and for the press they are of course it's been a massive inquiry it's cost three point nine million pounds of taxpayers' money to look into the press standards in the ethics behind the way the press works here in
9:15 am
the u.k. it was all off the back of public revulsion at the phone hacking scandal that led to the closure of the news of the world newspaper and it's resolved to nine months of interviews of hearings of investigations and now a two thousand page report delivered by an order leveson for everybody to look at about how the press regulations should chain. the consensus from him is that it should change and he's saying that there needs to be a lot of new a new law underpinning the way that the press is regulated in the u.k. well there is already a press complaints commission isn't there so why why does it work. well in short it doesn't work the status quo as david cameron said is unacceptable and according to lord leveson as he just said the press is wreaking havoc with too many innocent lives and it's really interesting to many innocent lives so according to the
9:16 am
investigation according to the report there needs to be a new way of regulating the way in which the press works he was very damning about the newspaper press and the newspaper industry and he says that it doesn't hold itself to account in the same very effective way in which it holds power to account here in the u.k. of course the critics saying that if you regulate the industry more and if you underpin it with legislation it could be the end of british free press as we know it and of course a lot of other people say that is entirely an issue blown out of proportion because there's been a lot of money spent talking about how to regulate the press when a simple search on google results in the unadulterated unregulated findings so it could effectively mute an already declining newspaper industry so let's take a listen to what some of the members of the media think about it right now. the
9:17 am
trouble is freedom of speech is that it's not like any other industry it's not like estate agents or lawyers in which you can drop regulations it's a fundamental thing that we all have and it's a it's a natural right. so it's not something you can just sort of tinker with ok so it sounds like there are going to new regulations but what is the report recommending . well what lord leveson recommends is an independent watchdog by the press for the press but it should be underpinned by legislation that all sounds very vague at the moment and it's up to the government to decide how that should actually work in practice so how is the government going to respond you think well the government is already split on the issue as much as they try to downplay this law prime minister david cameron expected to deliver his response very soon and immediately after that the deputy prime minister to deliver
9:18 am
a separate response now this is quite unprecedented for the government to issue separate responses on an issue it's clearly splitting them so it doesn't look like there's going to be any consensus anytime soon on the matter. ok we'll leave it there polly artie's polly. the hague tribunal for war crimes has a quickie course of his former prime minister and two of his aides for a second time but i moved out of the match was facing numerous charges of murder and torture of surge during the war in yugoslavia at the end of the nine hundred ninety s. political analyst alexander pavitra says the quake will show us just thai predeceased the high court case. because the tribunal was that our might be man he really wanted was going to or united states was the all the country that really mattered in parallel with their own rules and so a tribunal would be going to quit designed to be much of the interview preserve to
9:19 am
make sure that the servant declared the guilty party and all the war grew ninety instead of hard by a while by the way western intervention military and diplomatic i think made her little green men fear her going to have a chance to our actually when it came upon a reminder or memories bank that in fact the hague tribunal was the way was set up was against international law because the security council did not have the right sounds a preview articles always the generals the general assembly so i think what about all your debate about the legality in region a middle of an anchor if you don't know in general. now in other news footage of an obscenity laced performance which caused international outcry my may seeing be banned from the internet in russia log on to coffee dot com to find out why the country's authorities decided to block

access to video clips of the notorious punk band pussy riot more on that story online also there you will find a stream and of billion dollar gas deal between ukraine and a spanish contract is up in the air with yet as to why. they've actually done a deal with. chancellor angela merkel being called to account in germany over why she signed off on seven hundred thirty million euros worth of concessions for greece a hefty bill that will be footed by german taxpayers artie's peter all over is in berlin. opposition members of the social democrat party have merkel and her center right coalition that's is not merely a rubber stamping service and if they want to push through this latest package they're going to have to prove to m.p.'s that it's in the best interest of germany what this latest package contains is a bond buy back scheme low interest rates on the debts that greece has as well as
9:21 am
the hunting over of profit from these debts what they say in chile means though is that for twenty thirty germany is set to lose around seven hundred thirty million euros due to implementing these latest measures all of that of course not making great reading for chancellor merkel she said time and time again that the german taxpayer would not be hit financially by germany giving help to greece now they have to admit that that is going to happen and this is all happening on the basis that greece can pay some of it back by twenty sixteen where it should be back on its feet almost considering the current state of the greek economy and that's a mistake statement to make the opposition i mentioned the social democrats they are saying that any debate on debt restructuring for greece will have to wait until
9:22 am
after the general election takes place here in germany so with the shadow of the election starting to come into view and to a merkel essentially being politically embarrassed by having to go back on a promise she's made it's all stone to be a very interesting debate when german politicians discuss the latest financial aid package for greece. coming up at sixteen thirty g.m.t. max keiser and stacy herbert see similarities between central banks of congo and britain speculating on just what's filling their vaults. come around central banking go there looting the bank un source said later another un source denied that there had been money in the bag insisting they were full of being a lot of the central banks are collateralized by means that's similar to the bank of england mark carney is going to be arriving to the bank of england in a few short months and you'll find in the vault. some of boris johnson's
9:23 am
wigs but other than that there's nothing to collateralize the bank so yes of course you've got incredible similarities central banks are being looted the rebels whether they're in africa or in england. the motive is the same. human rights watch claims that syrian rebels have been sending children as young as fourteen to fight in their ranks after an opposition group lashed out to turkey saying if you was violence by allowing foreign ministries high to fight against assad into the war torn country international support is with another rebel group the foreign based coalition after france britain and some other countries promised to help their struggle this as iran take steps to increase its part in mediating the syrian crisis but is our. report taking sides could be an obstacle to pay.

the conflict in syria sees no end but iran a key regional power and indicated ally of syria is continuing and intensifying its efforts for a peaceful resolution to undermine their diplomatic mission to find no one violent and to the civil war on its doorstep doesn't offer it to representatives from all sides of the fighting in syria at the closed door today gathering no to violence yes democracy. took his request for nato missiles to be deployed on its border with syria through the scorn of iran's foreign ministry who said all that would do is aggravate tensions across the whole region and violence has actually already intensified following the latest interventions from western and arab diplomats when the syrian opposition formed the syrian national coalition as and see it quickly received recognition as well just a matter of the people from the likes of britain and france which even back its

support according to the american statesman so big. i don't think there is any. united states to follow you know stupid. if they decide to start a war simply on the assumption that magically be drawn into it i think it is the obligation of friendship to well you're not going to be making decisions. the policy director for the national iranian american council that hosted that event told us the u.s. could be truly into a war with iran against its wishes. whether the us blindly backs israel or follows bibi netanyahu into a military conflict with iran i think that remains to be seen but i would say that the same policies that we've seen the pressure policies some of the lack of flexibility in being able to negotiate has been driven by the influence of

hawkish pro israel lobbies in congress and here in washington and that. you know for the u.s. and frankly for israel you that is not a policy that is is beneficial to their interests at the end of the day we're faced with either a diplomatic resolution to this standoff or we see the escalating pressure the escalating antagonism that cannot survive indefinitely that eventually is going to reach a tipping point and whether it's deliberate or it's accidental we're going to end up in a war. time now to take a quick look at some other international used a series of blasts targeting shiite muslims killed at least thirty one people and injured over one hundred in two city south iraq's capital baghdad a car bomb exploded in karbala which is now flooded with pilgrims marking the anniversary of the death of hussein two bombs also went off in the predominately
